Memories
I saw you standing there
Sun gleaming in your eyes
the wind blowing through your hair.
My heart was lost, my mind enchanted.
I never thought, to take love for granted.
My soul was uplifted, and sings songs to this day.
Have never forgotten, since you went away.
Your memory inspires me,
You have filled many a dream.
No matter where I have traveled,
thoughts of you remain.
Women have come and gone,
day by day, year by year,
Still, two days with you,
are what, I have held dear.
You have returned from afar,
both our minds have traveled
but memories of each other
have held us near.
Knobby Knees
childhood memories
flood my soul
take me back to
days of old
cutting grass and
raking leaves
standing tall but
knobby knees
You were there
cute as a button
eating ice cream
creating a scene
our folks yelled out:
“get back to work!”
“get in the house!”
you giggled and ran, but
winked at the last second
I stood tall and proud
knobby knees and farmer’s tan
went back to cutting
but 10 feet taller.
